The Long Term Care Unit of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is the agency which is responsible for licensing and maintaining Medicare and Medicaid standards in Maryland Nursing Homes.

The Long Term Care Unit is also responsible for investigating and following-up on complaints of resident abuse.
