The New Mexico Department of Health's Health Facility Licensing and Certification Bureau is responsible for the licensing and regulating of New Mexico's health care facilities. Nursing homes, Non-medical home care services and Home Health Agencies are included, along with other facilities.
The Bureau is authorized by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to survey medical facilities and providers and skilled nursing facilities in the Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement programs. They use health compliance officers to hold inspections. They also oversee Life Safety Code surveyors who hold fire safety inspections. And a licensed Architect and Architect Technician review health facility construction plans for compliance.
The Health Facility Licensing and Certification Bureau is also responsible for investigating complaints. If you have questions or a complaint about Residents'/Patients' rights, abuse, or quality of life and quality of care, you can contact the Department of Health's Incident Management Bureau at 1(800) 445-6242, or The Health Facility Licensing & Certification Bureau at 1 (800) 752-8649.
There is an Incident Report Form you can use to Report Complaints Online at INSTRUCTIONS FOR INCIDENT REPORTS
