CCRCs are communities that provide a continuum of care to older adults under a contract for the life of an individual or for a period longer than one year. Typically there are three levels/stages of care offered by CCRCs: Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Skilled Nursing Care.
CCRCs are generally a collection of apartments, townhomes, or cottages and include common activity areas such as a library, activity, and craft rooms, a restaurant-like dining room, an assisted living facility, and a nursing home.
The Older Americans Act (OAA) requires each State Unit on Aging (SUA) to submit a State Plan every four years to the Administration for Community Living (ACL), under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
As Arizona's population ages, the work is of even greater importance. According to projections from the University of Virginia Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service, the number of Arizonans ages 60+ will increase by approximately 38.5 percent from 2020 to 2040.1 Through this Plan, Arizona is prepared to meet the expanding need.
